Things to Do
These are some of the activities our guests have enjoyed: sea kayaking at Eggemoggin Reach; cycling - rentals are available through several local companies; golfing at the nearby Country Club; hiking - there are numerous pristine trails - hiking maps are provided. Deer Isle boasts a wide range of local craftsmen and artists, many with open studios - Haystack School of Crafts in Sunshine offers public tours and evening events that are open to the public.
Take in a movie or live theater at the Old Opera House in Stonington; browse the gift shops in Stonington and enjoy clam chowder at a restaurant on the harbor - watch the bustle of the day’s catch at the fishing pier; take a boat trip out of Stonington for fishing or a relaxing cruise - board the mail boat for a daytrip to Isle au Haut, part of Acadia National Park.
Children’s activities include hiking along quiet seaside trails, beachcombing at low tide, fishing, biking, canoeing and kayaking – there are creative at classes for children at Seamark Workshops – play miniature golf at Finest Kind – discover Lily’s Pond, a tiny pond perfect for freshwater swimming. Every Friday from May through October at the Deer Isle Congregational Church parking lot, there is a Farmer’s Market from 10 am to 12 noon. Local vendors offer a variety of fresh produce, smoked meats, dairy products, cut flowers, baker goods and crafts. Summer events include the Lupine Festival, the Fourth of July Parade & Fireworks, Lobster Boat Races, Fisherman’s Day, Eggemoggin Reach Regatta and the Down East Race week.
